THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE in the United States dropped and the number of jobs created in the economy in May rose, but that was expected – mainly due to extraordinary factors relating to government employment. The underlying situation for the US private sector isn’t as strong as many in the markets had hoped. Expectations are that US interest rates – currently close to zero – will rise only once employment has risen meaningfully.

THE ALLEGATION that black professionals are constantly on the lookout for greener pastures is probably unjustified. That’s according to Jocelyn Vass, a manager at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) research programme for education, science and skills development.

I’VE BEEN AVOIDING call centres of late. But I couldn’t keep to that commitment when I discovered vehicle tracking company Tracker had debited money from my account in addition to my monthly premium paid to insurer Dial Direct. According to my policy, I pay Dial Direct – which in turn pays Tracker a portion.
